Equestrian Trailhead and Trails
SRCP and Cache Peak Back Country Horseman have proposed development of a new equestrian trailhead and campground on the 700 East Road, approximately 2 miles north of Shoshone Falls Road. The project includes the development of a series of loop trails from this trailhead running east from the campground, providing approximately 15 miles of single and double track riding.
The Trailhead will be primitive with no water or electricity and would include a single-vault toilet. Parking areas will be leveled and rocked for stability. Campground design includes a one-way entrance and access to two main one-way interior drives, providing access to approximately 14 individual pull-through equestrian parking spaces. Wood corrals will be constructed in the area and manure bins will be placed throughout the site.
Status: Approved by BLM. Fundraising underway.
The Snake River Canyons Park Equestrian Trailhead project is being led by the Park’s Board of Directors. The equestrian users will enjoy the enhanced access to seemly endless and already established trails with an unmatched view of the majestic Snake River.
The Jerome County Commissioners are requesting a $200,000 grant from the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation as part of the Recreational Trails Program.
